While the ferry terminus serving Vancouver, the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island has
nothing to offer but a narrow strip of beach beloved of fisherfolk and water sports
enthusiasts, there's a huge range of nearby attractions that tourists would be well
advised to make time for.

When your ship comes in at Tsawwassen, you'll be in Delta, a 338 kilometer farm and
wetland area bounded by the Fraser River, the Strait of Georgia, Surrey, and the
American/Canadian border.
With a population of 96,000, this special area contains three urban communities:
North Delta, Ladner and the town of Tsawwassen.
What to do here? First of all, plan to visit the George C. Reifel bird sanctuary,
a well loved 890 acre reserve that's home to 230 species of birds, including the
endangered Sandhill Crane, (the oldest living bird left on the planet!) If you're lucky enough to be here in November, you might even become part of the two day
Snow Goose Festival, an annual celebration held in Ladner that marks the return of over
20,000 snow geese!

Ladner, often called the "Hollywood of the the North," is popular with producers because
of its quaint main street, its historic buildings, and its "old time" ambience.
A walk in Ladner really does feel like a trip back in time. The Delta Museum,
housed in the old town hall, should be your first call.
Once a sleepy agricultural and fishing community, Ladner is still home to a thriving
fishing fleet. Plan to buy some fresh fish from one of the boats, or enjoy it
cooked for you at one of the popular restaurants or pubs.

Cyclists and hikers can walk for miles on the rebuilt dikes. History buffs can
plan their own "heritage house" stroll, checking out beautiful old properties like
McNeely House, built in 1893. The farming community of Ladner
is full of history and has the character houses to prove it.

Bird watchers can explore the nearby riverside park and count the number of bald
headed eagles perched in the cottonwoods.

|
Other places to explore include the town of Tsawwassen and even the tiny American
community of Point Roberts, if visitors have the appropriate identification.
A small border crossing is perched on the outsides of Tsawwassen to service locals.

With nearby beaches, golf courses, a splashdown park and even the agricultural tours
that can be organized in Ladner, boredom for visitors of any age is inconceivable.
