Kayaking at Bennett Bay, Mayne Island

One of the best areas for sea kayaking in the southern Gulf Islands must be Bennett Bay. Located near the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve and on the Strait of Georgia there are numerous islands and islets to explore. To the south the area around Horton Bay is accessible with its relatively sheltered waters. To the north, Campbell Point features old growth forest and access to Georgeson Island at the tip of the peninsula.

Wildlife is abundant in this area with sea lions, seals and river otters frequenting the area. If you are lucky you may be around when the orcas make their appearance. Bird life, especially on the islets is impressive with cormorants, black oystercatchers and bald eagles common.

Bennett Bay is also one of the better beaches on Mayne Island for swimming as with relatively warm water during the summer.
