Giant Pacific Octopus

The marine life in the Northwest waters is varied. You can see a multitude of rockfish, super sized starfish, a crazy collection of crabs including the Puget sound crab, Spider crab, and Rhino crab, Wolf eels, Octopus, Pacific cod, Ling cod, Greenling, Seals, and Gobbies. As well as fish, you will see a veritable garden of life. Sessile and semi sessile creatures, which are creatures that don’t move very far, if at all, cover any rock, discarded bottle or underwater wall making these areas home to some of the largest anemones in the world as well as sponges, tunicate’s, muscles and barnacles. These areas make amazing visual arenas and great photographic canvases. Above, you will often see kelp floating like upturned grass and below you on the sea floor starfish, flat fish, sea cucumbers, hermit crabs on moving day, go see for
yourself make a list of all the creatures and life you meet…..you’ll be amazed.

All of the dive sites mentioned come by recommendation of fellow divers; descriptions are only a guideline and only touch the surface as there are many great dives around the Gulf Islands. All divers should be fully knowledgeable of the sites they dive at all times and the best way to find information is from local divers, dive shops, charters and those that work and dive the area.
